Volunteers are the very backbone of an organization such as ours and we appreciate your enthusiasm in what we do. Thank you for bringing your group to Duke Farms. Duke Farms serves as a habitat for native plants and animals. Volunteer opportunities revolve around habitat restoration including the removal of invasive plants and the planting of native species.
We will provide a general orientation (about 15 minutes). We also encourage you to select an informal educational seminar taught by our staff (30 min to 1 hour) on a variety of sustainable practices (you can indicate your preference below). This can happen at the beginning or at the end of your volunteer service. Generally groups arrive in the morning, work for a half day, break for lunch and we then encourage your group to spend the afternoon enjoying the property in the afternoon.
Duke Farms is a native habitat so participants should wear closed toe comfortable shoes, long pants and long sleeves. You can expect to encounter insects and possibly Poison Ivy. Duke Farms will provide tools, gloves, sunscreen, bug spray, and TechNu (an effective product to remove Poison Ivy oils). We will also supply cold drinking water. Please do not bring recyclable water bottles (last year Americans consumed enough plastic water bottles to circle the globe 4 times!).
Non-Profits and Schools may bring lunch with you or can make use of our Café. All food coordination must go through the Duke Farms Cafe. Please Contact email@example.com for additional information and pricing (Non-Profits and School groups have the option to bring bagged lunches with the approval of the Voluntter Coordinator). Please note that Duke Farms has a carry in, carry out policy with reference to trash.
Duke Farms requires a standard waiver for all volunteers. Please CLICK HERE to print out the waiver and have each volunteer complete the form before arrival. You can bring them along on your service day.
We do require you register with Duke Farm at least three weeks prior to your visit to ensure an enjoyable and educational experience.
Please direct any additional questions or concerns to Clifford Berek, our Volunteer Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
